Moving/Life Update

I know I’m long overdue for a post so here’s a quick recap of what’s going on:

1. Last Monday I had to go to city hall to get stickers to dispose of all the TVs at my grandmother’s house. There were 9 total (and only 2 of them were hours). The rest were living in the garage for years. In her city, it costs you $20 to dispose of a TV so I had to buy the stickers and then call and make the appointment. C dragged them all out Monday afternoon for the Tuesday pickup and he thought we were messing with him and tied rocks to the bottom of them because they were so heavy – of course that wasn’t the case – they were just old and thus super heavy.

2. On Wednesday morning the movers came bright and early and by late afternoon we officially moved into our new house (whoo hoo!!!) and I absolutely love it. I couldn’t be happier. The boxes have had babies so there is still a lot of work to be done there. C and I spent the better part of Friday unpacking all the kitchen boxes and washing everything in our first dishwasher and thanks to my friend Jenn, she and I managed to whittle that pile down to nothing during the course of Saturday afternoon (of course consuming a bottle of wine between us didn’t hurt the cause).

3. On Sunday I met my folks at my grandmother’s house to start de-cluttering and with my mom we did a lot of that “sell this house” stuff along with making rooms that were jammed with so much look nice and spacious. Of course the garbage men this week are going to hate us, but it’s all good. We plan on doing the second floor this weekend. Fun!

4. Molly is still in the large dog cage we put her in when the movers came on Wednesday. We are keeping her in there until she’s feeling better (don’t get me wrong – it makes me very sad) but the vet actually suggested it. She only threw up once so far (knock on wood) Sunday morning. But the medication seems to be working. She’s eating much better than she has in months (or maybe even years) and she’s no longer throwing up on a daily or every other day basis.

5. C and I both came down with this horrific 24-hour bug yesterday. Thankfully I only spent a short part of the evening tossing my cookies. My poor C had it way worse than I did (though to me it was terrible because I never have a throwing up episode).

6. Work is kicking my butt – again. If you’ve followed the news you know that everything happening with the economy and so forth is affecting publishing. And thus it’s affecting what I do. Revenues are down and when that happens editorial (me) is affected in terms of page counts in my book, etc…

And that – I think – is the complete current update!

Pre-Moving Overload

Maybe it's because we moved to our temporary house piecemeal, or maybe it's because some how the universe allowed me to accumulate WAY too much stuff over the course of 6 months, whatever it is - it's kicking my butt! I spent all day Saturday and all day today (had yesterday off for Easter dinner with the family)packing so everything is ready for the movers first thing Wednesday morning, but man I already packed this much:

And I still feel like I haven't made a dent. I had to right? Worst part, I know for a fact 90 percent of our stuff is in storage. I'm so afraid it's not all going to fit in the new house. Guess it's time to purge again!

Pray for me!

Update

I’m long overdue for an update and I apologize. We are moving in less than a week and I’m so overwhelmed with what needs to be packed, what needs to be trashed and getting my arse in gear that I fear I’m falling by the wayside. There is also a ton of pressure on us right now at work and because I’ve decide to take next week off to get organized, I have even more to accomplish at my job by week’s end.

On the Molly front I just got off the phone with the vet and the biopsy results are back – my poor little kitty has Inflammatory Bowel Disease – hence the constant puking. She will be put on a steroid (not sure which one yet – my vet wants to be careful since Molly’s still young so she’s thinking about a small does of a synthetic one). I’m just hoping she doesn’t blow up like a Macy’s Day balloon!

And that’s the update. I’d type more but with so much to do I can’t lose a minute!

Update

Gosh I’m sorry I haven’t updated in a while. I’m doing fine now – pretty recovered, but man I was down for the count there for a bit. I never tend to get sick so I’m not used to it and this was really bad. But now I’m feeling much more like myself – just ask my co-workers and staffers :-)

In any case, I do have a house update. And I preface this by telling you all it’s not really a big deal. Apparently with so many foreclosures in the system, judges are behind in processing all the paperwork. That being said our closing, which was originally set for this Friday, Feb. 8, is now pushed off 30 days. The bank wanted more time. And since we have a place to live and aren’t moving out of an apartment, it works out pretty well for us. So we are temporarily on hold which works out well because we have some work we promised my folks we’d do at Nana’s before moving and it gives me time to start making my lists.

Yes, in case you didn’t know, I’m a list person.

What I discovered the other day that although I purged SO MUCH when I moved in with C I still have a ton of stuff. (Note to C: I know, I know and I’m so sorry you had to lug it around so many times). Needless to say, I’m purging again, big time. I know what’s going to work in our new house and I know what’s not going to work. And I’m gearing up for a giant yard sale at the earliest possible time in spring to get rid of it all. Why drag it all out to the curb to have the garbage men ignore it when you can actually get money for some of it and have someone else haul it out of your yard?

That’s the scoop.

I’ll have more soon
