When is a Driveway Too Steep?

So we love the house - the open floor plan etc.. But we discovered over the past few days and even more so yesterday during our home inspection that the driveway is very steep and has a high pitch. (didn't notice it too much before because it was covered in snow) If it was a steep driveway that leveled off at the top that would be fine, but it doesn't. It isn't flat and level until you pull into the garage. As far as snow and ice are concerned we know what we have to do - keep it clear to the pavement and make sure it's treated. But is this going to be a problem in our day to day activities? Is living in a house with a steep driveway an issue? Do any of you have a driveway like this? I need to hear what you have to say. Thanks in advance and I'll have more later.

Basically the only thing that is keeping us from signing the purchase and sale (which we have to do some time today) is our ambivalence about the driveway - the one thing we really can't fix.

Houses with steep driveays usually have a good view, which adds more to the resale price than a steep driveway detracts from it.

People are often overly concerned about steep driveways, when they really shouldn't be.

HI! I just googled "steep Driveway" and found your page. What "anonymous" said makes me feel better. My husband and I are in the same situation. We LOVE this house we found in Nashville and are concerned about the VERY steep drive. However, it has a beautiful view which we didn't really consider. Thanks for the hope!!

A steep driveway isn't a big deal. We have a very steep driveway, but great landscaping and a terrific view. When it snows we just park on the road to avoid sliding down the ski-hill we call our driveay.

We live at the bottom of a very steep driveway. I absolutely love it because when I get home, I am in a totally secluded and quiet setting. We don't have the children playing kickball or the motorcycle that goes by at two in the morning. I feel very safe here and, as others said, our view is better than anyone elses!

Also have a steep driveway, and as others have said it makes for a great view and discourages burglary. As far as snow, it is actually better because less snow/ice sticks to the thing and so within a short period of time it has melted off. I never have to shovel.
