Found!

Oh man, so yesterday we spent some more time at the new construction house and it's simply perfect. Quarter acre of land, front to back kitchen and front to back living room. Not to mention a front to back master bedroom. And closets that would not only hold nicely ALL my clothing, but even more! It's unbelievable really that in this market we could actually consider new construction.

My only, only gripe, is that it's farther away than I wanted to live. But it's beautiful, in a neighborhood surrounding a lake, with lots of trees and quiet. It's perfect.

While it will be farther for people to travel to see us, on the other hand, I've talked to several people at work who live there and it seems the commute is no different than my current one (which really is nice). I just wish I wasn't so directionally challenged and could see how it all comes together. But I will. I have to.

I really want to call this house home - keep your fingers crossed. This could be simply amazing!

The Hunt for the Perfect House

Yesterday we went out and looked at more than a handful of houses, since things are moving so quickly, we really need to get our act together. But alas, they were ruled out quickly. In fact, last night we had kept two as definites (one is a brand new construction) but we had to eliminate one we loved because unfortunately the street was too busy and C had horrible visions of me trying to back out of the driveway with a child.

So that brings us to today.

Later this afternoon we are going over to the new construction house to get a better feel for it and get more information. C was going to go alone, but I've decided to head out of work early to join him. While I'm not a super huge fan of the area, or the town itself (though parts of it I do like) this is something so brand new there's still time to choose the flooring and the appliances. I never thought, and neither did C, that we could possibly own new construction in this market. But never say never (whoever would have thought we'd sell our house so quickly?)

Oh and did I mention the home inspection on our house is now set for tomorrow? Talk about moving swiftly along!

Unprecedented!

It's unprecedented. In a fledgling real estate market, where homes in our area have been on the market for weeks, months and sometimes even years, we have a buyer for our house. In record time.

Was it only two weeks ago we made this decision, got the place ready to sell and got us to this point?

Our listing for our house went up mid-afternoon Thursday, we had three showings Friday (one was a second showing). We had five showings Saturday (and again one was a second showing - the first one) and by early afternoon Saturday we had an offer - and I'm talking about an offer just a little bit under asking price!

Not only are we ecstatic at how quickly this is all moving (they have a large down payment, the house inspection is scheduled for this week and they want to close on Halloween), but I'm personally thrilled that what we had to go through Friday and Saturday is (fingers crossed) behind us.

While many of the couples who came on Saturday were pleasant and "normal" some, really just left a lot to be desired and frankly pissed me off with stupid questions, ignorant agents and plain laziness. I don't know about you, but when I look at a house as a potential buyer (and we've looked at many) if I open a closet door, I close it. These people would trek through the house, leave closet doors open, the shower curtain pulled aside, the window curtains in disarray and even screw with the blinds. Problem for me was that we had so many appointments, I was running around like an idiot tidying up again as each left (and because everyone who came stayed for a while, it only gave me a few minutes between showings to put it all back together). Not to mention wiping up muddy footprints off the kitchen and bathroom floors, not to mention the rugs (leave it to us to have it be a rainy Saturday).

But I digress.

Things are good and this is actually happening (although there was a part of me that for some odd reason thought we would stay here and moving was just an idea). But it is happening, this lovely house I've been happy to call home and leave my mark on is going to be someone else's. Now the hunt is on to find our next home - a place where for the next 30 or so years we will grow old together, raise a family and live happily ever after.

Update

Now it looks like both showings today were so good both couples are coming back again! One tonight, the other tomorrow morning. That doesn't even include the (so far) four other appointments tomorrow. Could we actually have a bidding war in this real estate market? I guess a girl can always hope. This just seems unheard of.

I Wasn't Kidding!

We had our first showing this morning and would you believe just after they left they called to see if they can come back and take a second look tomorrow morning??? Craziness!! Add to that another appointment this afternoon and so far two additional ones for tomorrow - I guess there is a lot of interest in others wanting to call our home theirs!

The Price Must Be Right!

We must have done something right. C was all about pricing our house to sell (quickly) and I think he was right. Within six hours of the house listing on MLS we have two showings scheduled already for today! Talk about a rollercoaster. But on the other hand, the house is still totally immaculate, no clutter, nothing other than furniture and some choice staging :-). But poor Miss Molly, because of the two appointments today while we are both at work, she's in a big dog cage (in front of a window of course) in the front bedroom, complete with a blankey to sleep on, her litter box and her food and water. But she was stunned! She's never been caged (unless you count the small travel on to take her to the vet, which of course she hates). C got her in there this morning when I was blow-drying my hair and there she sat and stared at me - completely stunned. Followed by the crying shortly thereafter. But she's safer there and we don't have to worry about her getting out. I just hope everything moves quickly, at least for her. My poor kitty. And poor me. Couldn't find my watch this morning with everything being put away and no clutter, I actually started crying like a 4-year-old. I guess this is what moving and selling stress does to people?

P.S. Mike and Katy - thanks for loaning us the cage we'll take very good care of it and appreciate you helping us keep her safe :-)

Now the Wait Begins

We’ve finished everything that needed to be done and needless to say, at this point, our house is model-home perfect with barely anything, anywhere that would remind anyone that someone else, besides the potential homebuyer, is living there.

It’s neat as a pin. The shelves which were once “cluttered” with things like food, spices, even books, are now homes to things like that antique teapot, a pretty canister set and a vase of flowers. But seriously, whose pantry shelf is bare except for a Crate & Barrel bowl overflowing with polished green apples (which normally sit in the bag on the counter until they are eating)? At least I learned something from reading my Martha Stewart Living and Real

So it’s done. The rooms are organized, everything is cleared out and either tossed, in storage or temporarily living in our basement or attic. No more framed photos, not even my collection of photos of my nephew and my dogs (and Molly, of course) on the side of my fridge. It’s very sad.

Our broker was finishing up taking pictures today and our house should be online and ready to be purchased this afternoon. Now the real fun begins. Hopefully it sells quickly, effortlessly and the discovering and moving into our new digs goes just as smoothly.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Sigh

What does it mean when you see the listing sheet for the house you are about to sell and all you can think is "man, I want to live there!"

Man this is hard. I just hope I feel this way about the new house - if not more!

When the Going Gets Tough ...

Work is kicking my ass today. I'm not sure if it's because instead of coming in at 7:30 this morning (which is great bec it gives me a good hour and a half to get a lot done without anyone bothering me) I got here at 9:30 (bec I wanted to be there when the broker came this morning) or if it's because I worked so hard all weekend, but I thought I'd take a moment to write in an effort to clear my head and make better sense of things.

So the house is about 90 percent ready for showing. All framed photos have been taken down and boxed up. All cards which live on the mantle have been boxed away as well. The mantel is decorated sparingly, as is the table in our front hall, the table in our upstairs all, my desk, the dining room (you get the idea). I boxed up four boxes of books to make my bookcases more appealing to the eye, and managed to purge a bunch of stuff at the same time. I even spent some time in the yard tossing my summer plants which have decided they lived long enough and cleaned up the ones that are still thriving. We tossed lawn furniture we won't be taking with us (instead planning out the new set we'll buy for our new yard and deck).

This morning, after meeting with our broker, we did realize we still have a few more things to do and for me that means mainly organizing my closet - God help me. She said it's good that she can see the width and depth of it, but any boxes on the floor need to be moved, along with the disorganized piles of clothes climbing to the ceiling on the left side. Well C went out and rented a storage unit so we started putting stuff over there today so I'm thinking as much as I dread the idea, I think some of my clothing and shoes (gasp!) may have to go there. Not so bad considering I already sent all the summer clothes there. We'll see. Still a lot to do and only a day or two left to do it!

Now to wrap my arms around what's happening here at work and hopefully in a few days I'll be able to breathe and again enjoy this experience of finding a new home!

Some Big Decisions Finally Made

So they say home is where the heart is right? Well for me home is where I can live happily and comfortable with C – while also being fairly close to my family. But at the end of the day, C and I are making this move to start our own family.
While we’ve been house hunting for quite some time now, mostly in one area of the state, a few weeks back we went looking to see what we could get closer to my family. Now keep in mind, right now I’m only 25 miles away from them (but it seems farther as this area I’m in now is still, even after nearly 5 years, totally new to me). But I digress.

So off to my hometown we went where we found some interesting properties but what it meant was downsizing from our antique colonial into a much, smaller ranch or cape with a tiny lot for a significant amount of money over what we want to pay. But C was willing to do it. And I really wanted it. All to be closer to my folks.

All this is being complicated by the fact we want to put our house on the market ASAP for the fall, rather than wait for spring. And while C is good at putting together a plan and turning it into an action, I, on the other hand, when it comes to big decisions, flip flop, try to avoid them at all costs, and take it to an emotional level. But I’m working on that and I think I’m doing pretty well.

Throughout the weeks and says of discussion, the idea of not moving back to my hometown would literally bring me to tears, all because I want to be closer to my mom, dad and brother. Which I finally realized is insane because (a) I don’t live near them now and haven’t in nearly 5 years (and I’m down there every weekend, and (b) everything we want (affordability, lots of land, nice neighborhoods, great schools, a lot of house for less money) is all up here. And really, at the end of the day is it that much farther away? (Sorry girls, but it looks like Liz won't be moving back to the area)

Last weekend was a real turning point for us. We did some more research – because we needed to decide what we were going to do, where we were going to go and then put the plan into action. What we didn’t know is that if we looked for homes a bit further north than where we live now (approx 6-10 miles) we are talking about a whole lot of house (nearly 2,200 sq ft) on a whole lot of land, for a whole lot less than we’d spend moving back to my home town (where incidentally the taxes are also insanely high).

That being said, we mulled our options, made lists, had lots and lots of discussions and made our decision to get the house ready to market (ASAP) and start looking for a new home. Now to pack up everything we have that we aren't using so this house will fit the bill of any "Sell This House" episode.

And I have to say after all the drama (internal and external) I’m happy with the decision because I know it’s the right one. I’m happy that we are doing this together I’m happy that we are planning to have a family, I’m just happy!

I can't wait for this next step in our lives together and setting up our new home! Whoo hoo!

Thank God because up until a few days ago I was having nightmares like you wouldn’t believe about buying a new house, moving, losing shoes, even one where a crown on one of my teeth fell off – and if you know me you know nightmares are a rarity in my world.

But, because I’m me, I’m still having inner turmoil on one tiny issue – figuring out what to do with Miss Molly when the house is being shown.

Do we keep her in the house and let the realtor know she can’t get out and put notes on the doors? Or do we simply move her somewhere else in the meantime (which I really don’t want to do)? It’s not as simple as getting a heads-up when someone is coming to look at the house, as in this market if we want it to move (which we do) we need to make it accessible at all times of the day whether we are home or not.

Anyone have any thoughts or words of wisdom?

Done!

So those of you who have been following this blog know that C has been working on the house we are currently in for years now (more years than anyone really should). Up until recently the last of our four bedrooms has been complete and I just had to share the transformation with you all. I love it!

He's Really All That

There's nothing I enjoy more than getting together with my family and for my birthday dinner, it was as always, highly enjoyable. Of course, what makes these get togethers even more fun these days is the attendance of my 15-month-old nephew. He's so good - the little guy sat at the table all during dinner, enjoying himself, sharing my scallops with me, looking up intensely and nodding when the waiter was talking to him. He was an absolute joy, an angel and just precious. It was also my first experience of hearing him talk (aside from saying Daddy, uh oh, and no). My mother handed him a cracker and clear as day he said "cracker." Later I was in Stride Rite with him and looking at shoes and as I held one up he looked at me and said "shoe." I simply love this little guy!

My absolute favorite picture of the two of us:

Oops, I did it again!

If you can believe it (and I know MANY of you can't) I once again tried my hand at camping with C's family. Again, I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had (though I will admit to checking my email via the Blackberry - yep I had service). And again, like last year, I can handle anything for one night. C did have a nice surprise for me - our own tent! Last year we shared one. And by the way, this is how we started by birthday weekend!

Here's some pix!

Whoo hoo!

Whoo hoo! Turns out not only do I have a bunch of time left to take off from work this year, I have a super understanding boss. So I'm doing something totally out of my usual realm, I'm going to take it. I'm starting by taking tomorrow - my girlfriend Jenn is on vacation this week and I want to be part of it. Plus nothing feels better than sitting in my dining room on a Sunday night, typing a quick post and knowing I don't have to be anywhere but at the beach or the outlets tomorrow (the weather will be our deciding factor on which).

I'll be back up online either tomorrow night or Tuesday to fill you in on what's been going on - lots!

Untl then ...

I'm Going to Be How Old????

Where does the time go? In four days I'm going to be 37 (GULP) - yes 37 - In a nutshell that means in three years I'm going to be 40 (WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN??!!??) and next spring I'm 20 years out of high school (YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!).

I guess I never realized that people actually do get old - or that I would.

No significant birthday has affected me tremendously. Perhaps it's because I have a great corp of friends who always made sure I celebrated in style, or my family which always goes out of its way to celebrate all of our birthdays (significant others included). But 37 - Ouch!

As a kid they were always fun because birthdays meant pool parties - one of the perks of being a summer baby!

Course I'm joining a very well known group of celebrities who are 37: Minnie Driver, Lara Flynn Boyle, Mariah Carey, Matthew McConaughey, Vince Vaughn, Uma Thurman, Skeet Ulrich, Heather Graham, Claudia Schiffer, Kelly Ripa, Matt Damon, Ethan Hawke and Jennifer Connelly (all born in 1970 like myself).

If I look at it this way it doesn't seem like a bad club to be a part of :-)

I also share my actual birth date with Susan Saint James, Sarah Brightman, Halle Barry, Danielle Steel and Magic Johnson.

But at the end of the day there's one thing that always makes me feel young - of my group of friends from high school and childhood I'm still the baby - thank God for the summer birthday!

Ain't Nothing Like A New Stove

So the stove we have at the house, although not super old - really was entering its final days months ago, but we persavered and dealt with it. First it wouldn't light every now and then (the oven part). Then it was a bit more consistent and I'd constantly find C on the floor lighting the pilot. (scary to me! though he insisted it really isn't but I'm a fraidy cat about things like that). Keep in mind, that even if it did light - it wouldn't hold heat consistently so you had to be sure to account for that time when cooking.

We did however manage to get through a couple of dinner parties with it no problem. We even managed a dinner party where we had to keep the oven on broil to hold the temperature. But it actually worked out.*

The hope was to not have to buy a new stove until we got down to business to renovating our kitchen, but sometimes you just can't wait.

The straw that broke the camel's back came about a week and a half ago when C went to make cookies - which is not an easy task when you have to keep the stove set on broil to get it to work. Needless to say two cookie sheets full came out a bit overdone. SO it was off to Sears to buy a replacement and say goodbye forever to our
unreliable stove.

So we said goodbye to this:

And said hello to this: (did I mention it has a fifth burner with a griddle) - so cool!

(*Note to Kristi: This is probably part of the reason I haven't broken out the KitchenAid yet - course now I can really get down to it!)

What I Did on My Summer Vacation

After a solid straight year of busting my ass at work (with the exception of a few days off here and there), I finally took some time away from the office.

I began my vacation with an impromptu cookout at mom and dad's – which of course always means some quality time with my nephew.

Next, we traveled to Newport, RI for some rest and relaxation, enjoying the atmosphere and the views and taking in some mansion tours.

We stayed at the lovely America's Cup Inn right in the heart of downtown Newport.

Here's what our room looked like:

And had a yummy, romantic dinner at the Clarke Cook House restaurant right on Bannister's Wharf.

The next day, I took C on a tour of the Breakers. He had never been and we both really enjoyed it. (Guess the trick for me was not to go there for 10 years and then it was all new again)

After Newport, we headed west to Connecticut to see if the casino could give us any luck.

After a nice dinner and an overnight stay there we headed home.

We spent a couple of days relaxing at home, getting things organized, and oh yeah, buying a new stove because the old one simply had to go – too unreliable! More on that in my next post.

Even Miss Molly had a relaxing week:

And I ended my vacation with some beach time with a girlfriend, a kick-ass tan, and finishing up a lot of pleasure reading.

What did I learn from my summer vacation? That one week is not enough. From now on it’s two weeks or bust for this busy girl!

Now to get back into the swing of things at work!

Time for a Break

Believe it or not it’s been nearly ONE FULL YEAR since I’ve taken a vacation from my job. I was actually ordered months ago by my boss to take some time off – but that certainly isn’t an easy task in the publishing business, but I finally found a way to do it. I literally have one week during the month of August when we aren’t shipping an issue, so I’m sliding in my vacation there and I couldn’t be happier.

I can spend my days reading what I want to read, not gallies upon gallies of copy that needs to be edited. I can choose to have a mid-afternoon glass of vino or indulge in olives and cheese for lunch. I can pick up and go wherever I want, whenever I want during the course of the day without wondering if anyone is looking for me. I can leisurely wander through stores browsing (and of course shopping) instead of my usual lunch-time rush through TJ Maxx (that’s all I have for clothing retail near work) at lightening speed.

So bring it on – vacation here I come. Now to get through the next two and a half days of work and get this current issue out the door!

Stewie Griffin and I Have Something in Common!

Oh man - come every summer my super fair white skin turns a nice shade of tan (even if I'm wearing SPF40 which I try to do). It's funny actually, I'm the only family member that tans - everyone else tends to turn a shade of pink (course I'm also the only one who doesn't have naturally blonde hair) - but we all have the same color eyes (blue) and the same skin tone, but I digress.

So this morning C made a funny - he compared me to "tan Stewie" - an episode of "Family Guy" where Stewie gets a tan, drinks Tab and hangs out with his new tan friends. While I thought it was funny I didn't even realize how so until I found a copy of the episode on youtube and just had to share. Enjoy!

Ironic Twist?

All I can say is this is totally ironic - I was just cruising the Internet looking for a new bathing suit (believe it or not I had several but an entire bin of them disappeared a year ago - good ones that fit perfectly and cost a small fortune mind you), when I came across this headline:

"Bridget Moynahan to Have Tom Brady Baby on Gisele Bundchen's Birthday"

Are you kidding me? I hope Bridget holds out as long as possible - besides, most first babies are late anyway right?

Oh and the kicker of the whole story? Gisele is angry that the baby is expected to be born on her birthday. Oh man - celebrity gossip - I love it, yet at times it drives me insane.

That's all for now.

What Is That Ticking Sound??

Maybe it’s because in exactly four weeks and three days I’ll be joining the ranks of woman in their “late 30’s.” (where they heck does the time go???) Maybe it’s because everyone around me is either a happy parent of an infant or toddler, pregnant or trying to get pregnant, but man all of a sudden that clock everyone warns you about is ticking so loudly I can barely sleep!

Either way it’s funny how life changes. How dreams you had as a little girl to those you have in your teens and 20s can be just that, dreams.

I was engaged in my 20s (actually more than once I hate to admit) but man how different my life would be now if I had actually gone through with it. Sure, there’s no doubt I’d have children by now, but no guarantees I wouldn’t be joining the ranks of divorced, single moms raising children and working full time.

But, thankfully, that was not the case.

The funny thing is I have several friends who were married back then, right out of college, and had children and some are nearing the teenage years. I hear about it – every story, every scare, every injury, every success they have. And I’ve known them since they were born and that to me is something to be thankful for.

It wasn’t until a couple of years ago when everything really finally changed and it’s a change that has made my life so much better and so much more fulfilling than I ever though it could be. I didn’t meet C until I was in my mid-30s, but frankly if I had to wait until my mid-40s to have him unexpectantly come into my life, that would have been just fine. I never thought I would find “the one.” But yet, here he is beside me every step of the way morning to night, seven days a week.

He’s loving, caring, considerate, organized, charming, thoughtful, handsome, fun, a jokester, and he’s all mine. (did I also mention he does the laundry?) What more could a girl want? I never really thought anything, but every now and then the thought of a family comes to mind.

Now I’m not afraid it’s not going to happen. Not yet. But then again, you never know. And surely that will be something we will tend to together when we get married, when the time is right.

But I can’t help but wonder how it will all happen. If I can even have a child. Who knows? I know there are tests to see your chances, but frankly that’s not even something I want to think about because I’d rather know when the time is right, not ahead of time. Lord knows I have enough to worry about on a day-to-day basis. But let’s be honest. I’m in my late 30s. I’ve never been pregnant. After 36 a pregnancy is considered “high risk,” and I’ve always told myself if it didn’t happen before I turned 40 I simply wouldn’t even try. After all, it’s not a life half-lived if we don’t have children, right?

In the meantime, I try to suppress these thoughts which come creeping up on me at the least inopportune times and try to spread my love of children onto my girlfriend’s children and even more so on my only nephew making sure he’s happy and buying him everything from a limited edition Count Von Count (from Sesame Street) doll to books to fill his bookcase (even though I found myself adding some of my childhood favorites when purchasing some a couple of weeks ago). He also gets lots of hugs and kisses whenever I can get my hands on the little guy.

For now being an aunt keeps those thoughts at bay.

Too Scheduled or Monotonous?

Is it possible to have a "too scheduled" life?

Some say it’s Ok to have a “scheduled” life. And in my line of work it makes perfect sense, but man, when did life become so monotonous?

I guess it’s what happens to the best of us when you are finally settled – solid career, job security, a stable relationship, a roof over your head and frankly, nothing serious to worry about (though there are bumps in the road here and there).

But here I am and my day (Monday through Thursday) typically looks like this.

Get up, say goodbye to C, make coffee, feed cat, blow dry hair, get dressed, get in car, stop at Dunkins for coffee, fight traffic to work, put in 8-9 hours of work, (every other day replenish Dunkins late afternoon), get back in car, fight traffic home, stop by my grandmother’s house, drive home, put away my stuff, open my mail (shred anything I need to), take a shower, change, water my plants, pour a drink, talk to C, eat dinner, watch TV, read a bit, go to bed. And then it’s wash, rinse, repeat all over again the next day. Friday’s are a bit different as after work I drive to my parents store where I work until 10. Other than that, that’s my life.

I was dwelling on the monotony of it all the other day and my girlfriend pointed out that with a job like mine it’s really a good thing to have everything else scheduled. To know exactly what needs to be done each night and nothing more. Because at work, things change dramatically at the drop of a hat and can put you in a tail spin without you even realizing it.

I guess I’ve just officially become an adult. Not a bad thing, but definitely something I didn’t see coming. I used to be so whimsical and caution to the wind throwing, though I will admit over the past few years, I became much more methodical about my goings on and whereabouts.

Either way, that’s me in a nutshell –

Another friend suggested, again, that I find a creative outlet. I get to this point at least once a year and this is always his suggestion. Find something I like to do and do it. Last year it was my desire to learn how to knit – which we all know never happened as I couldn’t find a class. I know I still need to pull out my super cool still new-in-the-box KitchenAid mixer and start playing with that (but I still don’t know where to start). I do need to update my photos – yes folks, the girl who meticulously kept a photo album current every year for the past 15 has finally become one of you. I now have boxes and envelopes full of loose photos just waiting for a home. So I can definitely get on that. But I digress.

For now, I need to find a way to break the monotony – but I think the only way that can happen is if I have a less stressful, responsible job or if I win the lottery and frankly a job any less than what I have would drive me to boredom and the lottery, well they say you have to play to win and I never think to play.

Thanks for listening.

The Return of Scott Baio

I can’t believe I’m going to admit this but here goes. My entire childhood and teenage years I was obsessed with Scott Baio (aka Chachi on “Happy Days,” “Joanie Loves Chachi” and Charles of “Charles in Charge.” I love the guy. Thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread – man, with that face what else was an impressionable young girl to think?

That being said, I, the former dues paying member of the Scott Baio fan club, (the only fan club I ever officially belonged to by the way) started to fall a bit off his fan wagon as he got older and started his long string of “relationships.” Pam Anderson, Heather Locklear, Denise Richards, just to name a few.

But then this afternoon, I came across this information thanks to the always up-to-the-minute Web. Scott Baio is about to star in his own reality series on VH1! – "Scott Baio is 45 … and Single.” No surprise here – he’s the quintessential bachelor.

But back to the show. Well, it’s about him being single, finding himself in a mid-life crisis, wondering why he’s “still single, alone and still unable to settle down and commit to a substantial, meaningful relationship.”

I’m in. After all you all know I have a penchant for bad reality TV, but bad reality TV about my former favorite TV star from childhood – how could I not tune in.

It premiers July 15. Now the only problem is trying to not let C see that I’m adding it to my current frightening list of reality TV programs on the DVR. Katie and Peter was hard enough to justify, but this?

I'm in Love!

You might know by now that I have a shopping obsession, but while clothes are one thing. My biggest guilty pleasure is pocketbooks (OK, and sometimes, often times shoes). Today, it's all about the bag. (Of course I needed a new one, another one like I needed a hole in my head) Last weekend I welcomed my newest edition - Coach's 2007 Hamptons Weekend Patchwork Demi Satchel. I love her! She's so cute, so trendy, very fun and can be worn with everything! (although Sarah will tell you I love it because it's called "Hamptons Weekend" - think Sex and the City). She makes her debut tonight!

Eight Random Things about Myself

OK, so My Wombinations tagged me to write eight random things about myself, but I’m such an open book I’m not sure anyone would be surprised, but here goes:

1. I talk to my mom nearly every day. She’s such an important part of my life and not only my mom but a friend I can talk to about anything.

2. I’m petrified of spiders – any color, any size, real or fake. No joke. It’s the worst arachnophobia you could ever imagine. Therefore, Halloween totally freaks me out because somewhere – whether at work or at a retail store – will inevitably be decorated with some type of spider. It’s pathetic, I’m a grown woman, but man they scare me. On a lighter not – centipedes I can deal with, kill and have no fear of.

3. I still sleep with my teddy bear. By day he hangs out center stage on my bed.

4. I’m a super neat freak at work, highly organized and efficient, but put me in my car or in my home and it’s a whole other ballgame.

5. I spent an entire summer when I was a teenage on a cross-country bus tour of the United States with my grandmother. No joke! I’ve been to every state in the country except Alaska and Hawaii. And to this day – I still HATE buses.

6. I can read cover to cover at least two books a week and have a stack of at least five in the cue on my nightstand at any given time. I LOVE books.

7. I’m full of useless information that at some point or another always turns out to be highly useful. Just ask my friends and co-workers. Guess all that reading isn’t a bad thing at all.

8. I’m a shopaholic (but you already guessed that from the name of my blog). I have way too much clothing, yet somehow find a way to wear it all. I suppose there are worse addictions.

And for shits and giggles here is #9 – I, like My Wombinations, was engaged twice before meeting C. What can I say? I have no regrets – never look back and feel very fortunate I found someone as wonderful, loving, caring, funny and sweet as C.

Your turn!
I’m tagging the following:

Nikki at Life's Fun Little Lessons
Becky
FuriousBall
Lisanne at Bathtubjunkie

1. Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
2. People who are tagged need to write their own blog about their eight things and post these rules.
3. At the end of your blog, you need to choose at least eight people to get tagged and list their names.

I Owe You A Post

While I know I still owe everyone more than my random posts of the past month, I promise, I will be back on here more frequently now that everything seems to be calming down around me.

In the meantime, here are some photos from the Red Sox game my department went to a couple of weeks back.

Enjoy!

Water Cooler Gossip - Holloway & Ramsey Together

Oh, this is great! My mom actually just called to tell me. You'll never guess who is dating? Beth Holloway and John Ramsey. No joke! Fox news is reporting the father of murdered JonBenet Ramsey and the mother of Natalee Holloway who went missing in Aruba are an item and have been involved since January. Now that's an unlikely pair! Then again, nothing shocks me anymore - and this certainly solidifies that belief.

Gotta Love Retail!

If you've never had the opportunity to work in retail, then you really have no idea how painful at times it can be and how much patience is necessary when dealing with customers, who can be beyond difficult. Below is an example I heard from a friend of mine working at a liquor store the other night:

Woman: *holding up bottle of wine* Is this the only one you have?
Cashier: Well, let’s look at the shelf. *looks* Yep, that’s it.
Woman: No, I mean the other bottle.
Cashier: What other bottle?
Woman: The big one.
Cashier: *puzzled look* Um, I don’t think we carry that in the big bottles.
Woman: Yes you do.
Cashier: I don’t think so.
Woman: *indignant and firm* Yes you DO! I’ve bought them here before!
Cashier: *eyeing the growing line of customers, looks at stock person* Ask Manager/Owner if we carry that in the big bottles, wouldja?
Stock person: *in back, with Manager/Owner, who is talking to another wine rep, woman following impatiently* Manager/Owner, do we have large bottles of (wine’s name)?
Manager/Owner: They don’t exist.
Woman: Yes they do.
Manager/Owner: We’ve never had them. The company doesn’t make larger bottles of that brand.
Woman: Yes they do.
Manager/Owner: I have NEVER had large bottles of that here. We don’t carry it.
Woman: Yes you do.
Manager/Owner: No, I don’t.
Woman: Yes you DO! I’ve BOUGHT them here before!
Manager/Owner: You couldn’t have, because we don’t carry it.
Woman: Yes you do.
Manager/Owner: Well, it’s my store, and I’m telling you, we don’t carry it.
Woman: Where’s that old man?
Manager/Owner: Who?
Woman: The little old man with the white hair. I buy them from him all the time!
*at this point the stock person doesn't know whether to burst out laughing or beat the woman with a stick. Manager/Owner goes over to the shelf to help her find something comparable, while the woman continues to rave about bad service and stupid salespeople. The wine rep looks at the stock person and shakes his head. Eventually, the woman goes up to the counter to buy a bottle of something else, still visibly stewing*
Cashier: *smiling beatifically* Did you find everything you were looking for, ma’am?

Ok, that’s not verbatim, but you get the idea. That last line, however, is verbatim.

Goals Not Reached

My goal was to have some great updates on here this week, but needless to say, once again time totally got away from me. Between everything that happened at work this week - super hectic, but wrapping up. I'm also preparing two presentations for a meeting Monday morning, plannig a menu and getting the house ready for the first time mom and dad come over (tomorrow night for dinner) and now I'm going to the Red Sox game with my department on Sunday (really looking forward to that). So, it might be Monday before I can post my new pictures and fill you in on everything going on in my world. Until then have a great weekend everybody!

Boeing's 787 Dreamliner Prepares to Take Flight - Liz is Tired

Since I’ve been MIA for nearly a week, I thought I’d let you all in on what I’ve been up to. At work we are finishing up a project that has taken the efforts of each member of the staff to complete. It’s our first-ever issue of the magazine focusing on one topic – the summer launch of Boeings’ new 787 Dreamliner. It's also a giant issue - which we love in this business - with more than 100 pages.

On the other end of the spectrum, while we were in the process of getting the magazine to press, we were also developing a landing page on our website which highlights every story, every image and every podcast. It’s really quite amazing, so I wanted to be sure to share it with you all. You can check it out here at www.designnews.com/Boeing. Let me know what you think!

It's Coming

Sorry folks, it's been a super busy week at work to the point that I can't even begin to sit down and write at the end of the day because frankly, I'm too tired. I'll update you all this weekend (I hope) and plan on having some photos to share, etc.

Until then...

How Does Your Garden Grow?

So, it's always been a dream of mine to have my own house, my own yard and thus my own garden of sorts. And now, thanks to C, I have all that. While he already planted a tulip border along the fence, along with two rose bushes, my goal this weekend is to turn our lovely backyard into a haven for me to relax, read and entertain. But first things first, I need to plant some flowers.

The thing is - I've never done this. I've re-potted plants, so I can't imagine it being any harder than that. I just hope I don't kill anything. We have two window boxes on our shed - where I'm hoping to plant some flowers. I also want something in large pots near the stairs to the back door and in the corner. Course if I'm going to the backyard, then I guess it's time to pick up my hanging plants for the front porch - I love this even more as we have four hooks and a really good size porch.

Oh and because I am my dad's daughter, or as C calls me, "Little Big T," I'm going to try to grow tomato plants too. That, plus the fact I LOVE tomatoes.

Now, from all of you. The yard is full sun all day long so I need some help. Any idea as to what would be the best types of flowers to plant out there? I'm heading to buy the flowers in the morning so any tips you can offer up today would be greatly appreciated.

I'll post again this weekend with "before" and hopefully "after" photos for all of you!

Until then...

Snapfish Help

Not sure if this has ever happened to anyone, but it's totally freaking me out and was always one of my biggest fears. I went into my Snapfish account this morning to order the prints I uploaded over the weekend and guess what? It doesn't recognize my user name and password. So I, of course, click on the forgot my password link, and discover that, according to Snapfish, my e-mail address is not registered. Of course it's registered!!! I've had the account for more than 3 years!!! and, AND - have years of photos on there - most of which aren't backed up anywhere else. I am not pleased. I sent them an e-mail wondering if they can help me out. I'm just hoping, and PRAYING, that they are having a technical issue and it will all work itself out. Fingers (and toes) crossed!

Rachel Ray Go Away

First she took over my cuddling, loving Sunday mornings with C. We'd lay in bed and talk and then one day found ourselves watching the Food Network and my lazy Sunday mornings were then spent listening to her scream at me with her big loud mouth! Not to mention that big grin similar to the one I used as a child posing for photos. (If I had one on me I'd post it right here). Talking about "man overboard" if something fell out of a bowl and "EVOO." Give me a break!

I'm talking about Rachel Ray.

Then, a few months ago I head to the market (which anyone who knows me knows I do my best to avoid as I detest the supermarket) to pick up a few things including my standard Wheat Thins. What do I see? Her chubby face smling at me on the box thanks to a recent endorsement deal with Nabisco. Fine, but looking at her automatically puts her gruff, loud, obnoxious voice in my head. Now I'm looking for another cracker for my cravings.

But the worst was the other morning when I was getting ready for work. The TV is on the bedroom as I get ready so I can listen to the local weather and traffic reports. Next thing I hear - at 7 a.m. in the morning mind you - is her horrifying voice over my TV. Apparently she's now the face of Dunkin Donuts. Why! Why for all that is holy is this woman everywhere?

Give me Giada De Laurentiis any day!

She's soft spoken, sweet, adorable and man her recipes rock!

And one word about Rachel's "30 Minute Meals" - sure they take 30 minutes, but that doesn't include the 30 minutes you need prior to chop everything!

Coffee Conundrum

Here’s one for the books. Now usually my only gripe with Dunkin Donuts in the morning is the fact that every day I order the same thing – a large iced coffee, half regular/half decaf, skim milk and one Equal (I know slightly complicated but usually not a problem as I go to the same one every morning for four years now). However, at least once a week I’ll pull into the parking lot at work, take that first sip and find it’s hazelnut! The one flavor that literally makes me queasy. They couldn’t screw up with coconut? – That I could handle.

But this morning was something I NEVER encountered. I ordered my usual large iced and after I paid, the girl put down on the counter in front of me two coffees – a small and a medium. I looked at her like WTF. She informs me they ran out of large cups so she put it in two. Are you kidding me! How the hell was I supposed to drive to work with these two coffees, not to mention my little travel cup from home that I had been drinking from for the past half hour. Then I start to realize there is no way I’m going to be able to get out of my car, load up my work gear and carry TWO coffees into the building, while swiping my badge to get in. I literally stood there and stared at the two cups of pure stress staring me down in the coffee shop for two straight minutes. She looks at me and pulls away the small. “Did you just want the medium?” No, I paid for the large. (I’ll admit it, I’m cheap). So off I went, stomping my feet and bitching under my breath. Only to get in the car and realize – wow – who would have thought. I didn’t have enough cup holders in the front seat to handle it all.

Ugh. Thank God a co-worker pulled into the parking space beside me when I got to work this morning and helped me bring it all in.

The end.

Note to Dunkin Donuts girl – when you order a large iced with one Equal – you don’t necessarily need one Equal in the small one – nasty!!!

Reality TV Junkie

C calls it the "dumbing down of America," I call it a release. Yes, I'm addicted to reality shows - but sadly many of them aren't even what someone would consider a "good" reality TV experience.

By day I'm the executive editor of a major technological design magazine with a circulation of more than 180,000 worldwide. Give a girl a break. I work hard during the day and aside from catching up on some of my reading at night, I like to escape and watch non-thinking, mind-numbing if you will, television.

I love Amazing Race All Stars (but can't stand Charla and Mirna), totally had it with Survivor, and can't stomach the ridiculousness of the Bachelor (although I was a big fan of the Bachelorette which seems to never be coming back).

Now here is where I'm concerned. I'm a big fan of The Hills, and I know I'm not the only one. I did stop watching Laguna Beach after the second season. But, as a seasoned 90210 fan how could I not program my DVR to record Tori & Dean Inn Love (you've got to love the Oxygen channel) - it's such a train wreck I can't stop watching!!!! And this is before her baby is even born. I imagine it will get much better. I am also one of those people who actually caught Rob & Amber's (of Amazing Race and Survivor fame) reality show Rob & Amber Against the Odds - where they move to Las Vegas so he can see if he can make a living being a professional poker player. Really folks - some of this stuff you have to see to believe.

C was actually speechless the other night when he was going through our recordings to find I'm now also taping Run's House. I'm giving you all the same answer I gave him - I do not know.

So yeah, train wreck reality is my escape, well that and shopping, but sometimes there isn't that much disposable income burning a hole in my pocket, so curling up on the couch is the better way to go.

What to Do about a Puking Cat?

So Miss Molly is again making a liar out of me. I swear to God she only throws up for C's benefit as I very rarely encounter it myself. Which brings me to this morning. Apparently she threw up on the stairs and poor C - stepped in it and dragged it up a couple of steps. Needless to say he was FAR from happy and spent the time he should have been spending getting ready for work cleaning up cat puke, washing the runner on the staircase, etc...

While I believe Molly isn't tossing her cookies as much as she did before we moved, C will say differently. Again, he's finding more than I am.

I need to - MUST - solve this problem.

I read somewhere that if you put a ball in her bowl it makes her eat slower as she has to eat around the rolling object. Does anyone think this will work? I have to do something. She doesn't get furballs thanks to the food she eats and the fact she's groomed regularly. I also know she does it to herself - she's notorious for going to her food bowl, gobbling it up like it's going to disappear if she doesn't and then immeditaely run around the house like a fool. I know if that was me and I was doing the same thing I would be yakking - so it makes sense.

Help!

What Is It They Say about April Showers?

What ever happened to April showers bringing May flowers. That's certainly not the case here in the Boston area where the forecast is a chilly 40 with rain set for every day this week.

The rain we had last night into this morning though - now that was interesting. First off they recorded 50 mile per hour winds with, as the television meteorologist said this morning, a low pressure similar to a category 2 hurricane. Need more proof? C and I woke early this mornign to the sound of crashing down our street. Would you believe it was a piece of siding from teh house next door? It was wicked. Throughotu the area lawn furniture has been tossed about like dollhouse pieces. And my commute to work, although light thanks to the holiday, was like playing a video game dodging trash barrels, fallen limbs and flooded out roads all the way in.

Give me summer! I don't need spring - I just want some sunshine, but from the looks of it we won't be seeing any of that until next weekend. My fingers are crossed.

Friday, April 13, 2007

Where is Spring?

Folks, for those of you not living on the East Coast or in Boston. Here's something to keep in mind. We've had snow twice in the first two weeks of the month. Temps haven't been above 40 for weeks (although Saturday is supposed to be in the 50s) but come Sunday - it's back to chilly weather and a monsoon-ish storm coming through Sunday and Monday.

What does this mean? Well a couple of things. In Boston Monday is Patriot's Day and the running of the Boston Marathon - in very cold, very wet, very windy weather. There was even talk of postponing the Marathon - something that has never happened in the 100 + history of its running.

Add to that the records.

I just heard on the radio that April 2007 in Boston is the coldest April on record in 113 years.

Perhaps Spring might just escape us this year and we can cut directly to summer? That wouldn't bother me a bit!

I'll Never Use an Airport Bathroom Again

It's official - thanks to a story I just read in the Boston Herald, I will never, I repeat - NEVER - use a bathroom in an airport again.

According to the story,boston.cragislist.org is being used for matchmaking for those travelers "trolling for casual sex in Logan’s concourse as a last-minute souvenir of their trip to Boston."

Wait, it gets better. It talks about some of the posts:

“Looking for a quick airport encounter now at gate d, airtran,” one man broadcast Sunday at 7:06 a.m. on the popular online classifieds site.

"Last Friday, at Terminal B, shortly before 7 p.m., “Horny married guy looking (for sex) with another discreet dude."

"Earlier that day, a gay passenger with a schedule to keep wrote, “Can’t travel far so another guy at Logan would be best.”"

Logan Airport officials say they are aware of the situation, and are working with state police.

And apparently Boston isn't the only venue for this type of "hook-up." The article says at the world's busiest airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International, undercover cops have arrested more than 30 people in the past three months, usually in public restrooms, for "pulling down their pants instead of pulling out a good book." Lovely.

This is just so wrong!

I have nothing more to say on the subject.

The Imus Saga

Check out my brother's post on the firing of Imus* this - to me it's right on the money about the hypocrisy of the whole situation.

I just have one thing to add. With everyone and their brother coming out of the wood work and voicing their opinion on the subject on national television, you have to wonder why there is such a double standard.

Whoopi Goldberg was on the Today show yesterday talking about it, yet (in case you didn't know) the name of her production company is actually "One Ho Productions." So basically it's OK for her to use the term but not him? Granted his comment about "nappy headed ho's" was highly offensive - but they did suspend him to show him he was wrong - but my question is why is everyone bowing to those against his comment, from the Al Sharptons of the world to the advertisers who threatened to pull ads if they didn't fire him? I know money talks and shit walks, but come on folks!

Not to mention last night on Larry King they had everyone on from Serena Williams to Delta Reese (not sure where they dug her up from). The legs this incident has is truly amazing to me. And I'm sure we will continue to hear much more about it in the upcoming weeks and months.

*Just for the record, not a fan of Imus or a non-fan.

Unbelievable!

I can't believe it - CBS actually fired Imus!

More to follow.

What to Do at 1 a.m. on a School Night

I haven't been feeling well lately, and while I tend not to get sick, my body does decide to revolt in other ways - from severe joint pain (thanks to the Fibromyalgia) to migraines. Lucky me, Monday kicked off a week of both.

Monday night - I could barely move. The pain which began at my left shoulder and then found it's way to the side of my neck, decided to settle intensely at the back of my neck leading its way up to a killer migraine and basically the inability to move my head in even the slightest way without searing pain.

Needless to say I went to bed early and while normally I'd read when I do this, those of you who know what it feels like know you can't even have the lights on, yet read when you have the searing pain, never mind the throbbing headache. So into bed I went early. And medicated myself with everyhting from Aleve to my prescription meds, and an ice pack. Nothing was working. Then I passed out - whether from being tired or the pain I didn't care I was sleeping!

Now there's a problem with going to bed early when you're body is only used to so much sleep. You wake up. So there I was 1:30 a.m. Still suffering from a dull headache, yet WIDE awake. I swear the cat looked at me with a "what is she kidding?" look when I had to move her to get out of bed. Thankfully C didn't stir at all. Must be nice to sleep so deeply :-).

I took another pill, read almost an entire magazine, checked my e-mail, folded some clothes, everything I could do upstairs. I actually considered going down to the living room and catching up on some shows hanging out on the DVR, but figured if I did that I would be doomed.

So I headed back to bed. It's now 3 a.m. Nothing, still can't sleep. Started running mental lists of things I had to do at home and at work. Running your mind in the dead of night is sure to keep you awake.

Needless to say I finally fell asleep around 4 - only to be woken at 5:30 for the day. Thankfully since I used to be completely nocturnal I was able to get through my day. Though last night it hit me - and sure enough I was in bed super early yet again, but this time I didn't rouse until C woke me before he left at 7 a.m. Bring on Wednesday!

What do the rest of you do when you can't get back to sleep? I think I could use some suggestions because I know it's going to happen again at some point.

Five Answers to Five Questions

Thinking I'd open myself up a bit (though I do tend to keep my walls up a bit at times) here are the answers to five questions from Kristi. (Thanks Kristi!)

1. What is the most important lesson anyone has ever taught you?

The most important lesson I think I’ve ever been taught is to be yourself. Don’t go along with the group. Be your own person. Set your own goals, believe in your own ideals and don’t be afraid to stand up for what you believe in. That also goes hand-in-hand with the fact that what it all comes down to in terms of finding the right someone to spend the rest of your life with, you won’t be able to find him or her until you know who you are, know what you want and are happy with the person you are. Only then can everything fall into place.

2. If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be, and why?

Oh man, this is a tough one. It’s a toss up between Veal Saltimbocca (I know, I know, veal isn't very PC) and olives. I LOVE olives!!!!

3. What current social issue is the most important to you?

To be honest, I’m so up in the air with social issues right now although I'm definitely a socially-responsible being. Maybe it’s my age or where I stand in terms of having a child in the future, but I can’t honestly tell you what issue is at the forefront at the moment until I can wrap my hands around it. But I promise I will answer this sometime in the very near future.

4. If you could get away with a criminal act, scott-free, and never have anyone know about it, and never be charged for the crime, what would it be?

To be on the safe side, and remember, this is hypothetical, I would find a way to get my hands on at least a few million dollars to sock away in the bank. After all, $1 million garners about $50,000 annually in interest :-).

5. If you could go on any game show, past or present, which one would it be?

Jeopardy – I was always the couch champion of this!

CVS - Friend or Foe?

Let's, for a moment, talk about the hassle of picking up a prescription. Now I know it's not like it used to be - with big companies taking over and running smaller, family-owned ones out of town we are pretty much stuck. No more running to the local corner pharmacy when you have an emergency and getting the help you need. Like many years ago when my cat actually ate one of my birth control pills (it fell on the floor and she gobbled it up before I had a chance to grab it). That day I went down to my local family pharmacy, explained the situation to the pharmacist who knew me by name and she gave me a pill. Had it been CVS, there is no doubt in my mind I would have been forking over $50 for a replacement pack just for that one pill. But I digress.

On Tuesday my significant other went to the doctor and needed to me to pick up his script for him after work. No problem. I stopped by the house when I got home - about 4:45 - dropped off my work stuff and headed the three blocks over to our local CVS (his doctor had faxed the prescription over at the end of his appointment about a half hour prior). Terrific! I was thrilled - as we all know that if you have your doctor call it into the pharmacy at CVS you usually aren't required to wait the requisite 20 minutes (where I swear they intentionally make you shop the store to buy unecessary items while killing time).

I pull in - grab a spot - pretty much a good feat at this location and walk on in. Here is where it starts to get ugly. Nothing is ever easy so I should have known that up to this point things were moving ahead way to smoothly.

I walk down to the back of the store where the pharmacy line is four people deep, not counting the couple who are half asleep in the "waiting" chairs to the right and the woman sitting there hacking. Great, now I'm exposed to some strange person who probaby has Sars.

Ten minutes later it's my turn. I tell the pharmacist I'm there to pick up a prescription and give him the name. "I don't have anything under that name," he tells me abruptly. I tell him the doctor faxed it in within the past half hour to 40 minutes. He goes to the computer. "There was no prescription called in." No shit sherlock, I said it was faxed in. So I tell him again, it was faxed in. He walks ever so slowly in that indignant I work in retail way, pulls about 20 sheets of paper off the fax machine and comes across ours. Terrific. I know it's two scripts that come in boxes - all you have to do is slap a label on each. How long could it take? Five minutes max? I'm thinking again, I'm in good shape. Whammy! (as Nikki would say)

He informs me it will be at least 45 minutes before it will be ready. 45 minutes! You have to be shitting me! I'm ready to pull a Shirley MacClaine in "Terms of Endearment" - give my boyfriend the pill!!!!! I explain he needs to start this medication today and that it's imperative I have it. He tells me I'll have it but it will be 45 minutes. He couldn't have given a care in the world.

So I go home. Tell C the whole story. Take a shower. Make something to eat. and get ready because I had a friend coming over in an hour to pick up some stuff. I figured it would be fine. I could go over to CVS to pick up the script and be back in plenty of time. He said 45 minutes right?

Fifty minutes go by and I decide to pick up the phone and call before heading back over. I'm very nice, "hi I'm just calling to see if a prescription is ready?" I give him my name and I get a nasty "you were just in here" as a reply. I said yes, like an hour ago. "Well, he says, "I just put it in the system two minutes ago." What does that mean? You guessed it! It would be another 45 minutes to an hour. That makes it nearly two hours to pick up two items that again, all they had to do was slap a sticker on them and I'd be all set. Assholes. Then he adds that one of the scripts isn't covered by insurance and will cost $55. Whatever, at this point who cares. I told him it was fine.

So I hang up the phone, bitch a little, Ok I'll be honest, I bitched a lot. And then decided when Sasha came over (her husband was dropping her off) I would drive her home and stop by CVS - safety in numbers right.

So an hour and a half later, I again pull into the CVS parking lot - the place is jammed there is only one open parking space - so different than the good sign I had pulling in nearly three hours earlier. Oh, and did I mention this CVS actually has metered parking! Yep, metered parking meaning that not only to I have to deal with the ignorant assholes who work there, I have to pay for it. The fun never stops.

We head on down to the back of the store. Again, the line is multiple people deep and it's finally my turn. As I'm asking for the prescription there is a woman to my right who looks about as unhappy as I who offers up a "good luck" as she's been there 20 something minutes and they can't find hers. Shocking!

I give them my name. She finds nothing. Can't spell the last name even though I spell it out for her twice. Then goes to the computer, still can't find it - although she's telling me it has been filled. In between all this she's pissing and moaning to her co-workers that she's worked 16 hours and has to leave. And then they all start laughing and almost having fun at my expense! I'm steamed!

She has me move out of line and over to the "consult" window. Probably to keep me from causing a scene :-) and again starts asking me the spelling. Ugh! Still can't find it. More time passes, she calls for someone up front to help her and then turns around to the counter where there is a paper bag and sure enough - C's prescriptions are sitting right there and ready to go.

So by 8:30 that night C was finally on his way to recovery. Ugh.

Honestly, where's the humanity. Why are people so ignorant and uncaring and selfish. And further more, wouldn't it make more sense in this industry to have someone who speaks and reads English handling prescriptions? You'd think so right?

Coming out of the Closet

Just to give you all a real view of what I'm talking about - I documented the problem. It's embarrasing but I feel that I have to share this with all of you to get the best range of advice from all who can offer some.

I came home Saturday afternoon and decided to spend a good hour going through my closet, packing up my winter clothes (though with this week's forecast I'm thinking that may have been a bad idea) and actually putting items aside for Goodwill (believe it or not).

Here is what I was greeted with when I entered the room that houses my closet. Several containers of summer clothes, not to mention one and a half that still had items I hadn't found a home for since I moved.

Then I went to the closet. So, not what a closet is supposed to look like. Too much jammed into too small a space with no room to breathe. (though they are hung by garment type - so I guess in some weird way it is a bit organized). Plus the fact I can't find a thing. I think what freaked me out most about the closet were the scary piles of clothes stacked precariously on the top shelf (lets just say I need step stool to get up there without having everything tumble down on top of me).

The shoes, of course, are another problem. They are stacked in boxes along the walls of the closet - right now in no order whatsoever (which made it really difficult to find a pair of flipflops on Sunday. They really need their own closet, but until then I definitely need to come up with a solution.

So I packed up the winter sweaters and turtlenecks, pulled out a ton of stuff I haven't worn in quite some time and bagged that up to be given away. Started thinking about where to put my dozens upon dozens upon dozens of pocketbooks and then my room looked like this.

I'll admit it - the scene frightened me. All I could think is that the closet may begin to revolt and start throwing up more clothing at me and I still don't have anywhere to put it. I managed to sort through some piles, and organize the drawers of the other two dressers I have for storage, but I was afraid. So I took a break.

Even Molly was stunned.

I did manage to clean up the room by the end of the afternoon. Now I just have two more containers of clothes to find room for, along with the pocketbooks, and then I can start trying to make my closet somewhat functional. It will certainly be a challenge and I'll take any advice anyone can offer as to how to make this work.

Until then ...
